It's that time of year again, Canada Day! Unfortunately, with the current hardships and social unrest, many Canadians are not as proud as they used to be, nor are they in the mood to celebrate Canada Day.
But in the spirit of the holiday, Global News, a local English-language media outlet, has dug up some lesser-known facts about Canadian celebrities in Hollywood, and is sharing them with you for your enjoyment.
Many familiar Hollywood stars are Canadian, and Canadians tend to support their own stars, so what are some interesting and little-known facts from home? Let's take a look and see how many of them have been unearthed.
Drake's uncle played bass for Prince
Rap sensation Drake may be one of the most famous Canadians around, but he's not the only one in his family with a special musical talent: Drake's uncle, Larry Graham, played bass in a band and collaborated extensively with the legendary American musician Prince, and is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who's credited with pioneering the electric bass guitar technique. Speaking of Prince and Drake, we at Toronto Life would like to add that Prince, who is originally from Minnesota, married a Toronto woman, Manuela Testolini, in 2001, and since then, the two have lived at 61 Bridle Path in Toronto's prestigious mansion district. After Prince passed away in 2016, his former Toronto home was listed for sale. Drake's Toronto mansion was built later, but it was also in Bridle Path that he and Prince rounded up to be neighbors.
Céline Dion won the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland.
Many of us know Céline Dion, Canada's national treasure, from the Titanic theme song "My Heart Will Go On". We also all know that she is a native Quebecer because she was born on March 30, 1968, in a small town outside of Montreal, Canada, the 14th child of a poor family.
